Mozambique: Maputo hikes its ‘Chapa’ fares, by 7 meticais – Watch

The public transport tariff will increase from the current 12 to 19 Meticais for distances up to 10 km and from 15 to 22 Meticais over 10 km, the spokesperson for the Municipal Assembly of the City of Maputo announced today, without advancing the date on which the new fare will enter into force
The price hike approved today, will not suffocate citizens, said the spokesperson, given that since the Government has promised to subsidise passengers, through the Famba card and mobile banking.
The spokesperson says, in the StrongLive report below, that this resolution will come into force five days after publication.
Opposition parries in the Municipal Assembly, Renamo and MDM voted against the price hike.
