The President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of Mozambique’s Defence and Security Forces (FDS), Filipe Nyusi, yesterday visited the Northern Operational Theatre, where he spoke with the public, encouraging them to maintain vigilance and denounce any unusual activity to the authorities.
The head of state visited the districts of Ancuabe, Macomia, Nangade, Muidumbe and Mueda to learn about the security situation there, since the movement of terrorist groups seeking to loot food products in the area became known.
In Ancuabe, for example, the president found the situation somewhat different to descriptions in some press and social networks, namely, that the district headquarters village was deserted.
Nyusi visited the local health centre, where he interacted with patients and medical staff, whom he congratulated on the work they were doing, expressing also his pleasure at finding the health unit clean and organised.
In addition to the population, Nyusi interacted with FDS units working side by side with troops of the Southern African Development Community (the SAMIM mission) and from Rwanda.
“I know that you are here on the ground to ensure full security. For example, information arrived, which is real, that there was an attack on Nanduli and that there are some movements. But they also told the world that the village of Ancuabe was deserted. So we came here to see the situation, and found children studying here,” President Nyusi remarked.
The Commander-in-Chief encouraged the FDS to keep up their readiness and morale.
In all the districts he passed through, the president ordered the military to search every part for an enemy bent on destroying the peace of communities engaged in production and the development of the country. “We came here to show solidarity with you and find out how you are doing. Continue to protect the population, the districts and the economy!” Nyusi urged them.
