The Assembly of the Republic on Thursday approved, by consensus and definitively, the draft resolution electing Mário Ernesto Augusto as member of the National Elections Commission (CNE).
The election of Ernesto Augusto aims to fill the vacancy left by the death of the former CNE member Abílio da Conceição Lino Guilherme Diruai, who, like the new member, was proposed by the Frelimo party.
After scrutinising the entire candidacy process, the Parliamentary Commission on Constitutional Affairs, Human Rights and Legality concluded that Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Reserve, Ernesto Augusto, meets all the requirements established by law to join the CNE.
“[Mário Ernesto Augusto] is a Mozambican, over 25 years of age, of recognized moral and professional merit, suitable and capable of carrying out his duties with impartiality, independence, objectivity, zeal and competence,” said commission president António Boene, quoted by AIM.
