A dedicated concert by TP50, to be held at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, at the Fernando Leite Couto Foundation in Maputo, celebrates the Portuguese language in song.
The joint initiative of the Portuguese Cultural Centre and TP50 itself is part of World Day of the Portuguese Language commemorations, marked annually on the 5th of May.
Here is what the promoters’ brochure says.
“The Portuguese language can manifest our soul at a level like very few others. The truth is that it is not simple to put aesthetics into a text, much less into a musical lyric. (…) The Portuguese-speaking world is full of wordings of immeasurable beauty. From love to revolt, from jealousy to passion, from indignation to happiness, there are countless prose pieces, poems, short stories, chronicles and musical lyrics of extreme beauty and depth. These are words which at the same time affect and express our souls. It is difficult to imagine the world without this wealth. And in this poetic world of the Portuguese language, sung lyrics are a unique treasure trove of beauty and joy. That’s what TP50 showcases in this new concert, with a repertoire of 15 songs, all in Portuguese, from different continents.”
Tickets to theTP50 concert “Cantar a Língua Portuguesa’ are free, but must be collected in advance from 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, from the Fundação Fernando Leite Couto.
