A delegation of Mozambican diplomats led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Verónica Macamo has been visiting the province of Cabo Delgado to express solidarity with the victims of terrorism.
In Pemba, Macamo and the national diplomats helld a working meeting with the Secretary of State of Cabo Delgado, António Taimo Supeia, the Governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabu, and the president of the Northern Development Agency (ADIN), Armindo Ngunga.
At this meeting, they formally delivered a donation to the displaced: more than 14.7 million meticais, laboratory equipment, school furniture, among other items, in support of the victims of terrorist attacks.
The donation results from the contribution of employees of the Ministry who are in the country and in the different diplomatic missions around the world.
Minister Macamo, who is in Cabo Delgado in front of the delegation of ambassadors from Mozambique, told the government of Cabo Delegado that the visit to the province aims to assess the impact of the terrorist attacks and, above all, comfort the victims.
She congratulated the government, the population, the defence and security forces, the troops of the Southern African Development Community Mission and of Rwanda, for their efforts in the fight against terrorism.
Veronica Macamo also highlighted the pragmatism evidenced by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, in mobilising internal and external support to combat terrorism, as well as in the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure.
“It was thanks to this pragmatism of the President that the terrorists’ actions are limited to escape and survival”, Minister Macamo said.
The Secretary of State for Cabo Delgado province, António Supeia, thanked the gesture and assured that the goods will be channelled to the legitimate recipients.
The delegation will also visit the Marocane centre, located some 15 kilometres from Pemba, in Nanjua, Ancuabe district, to interact with the displaced population.
The visit started on Monday (09-05) and ends tomorrow, Wednesday.
