More than 50,000 workers in different sectors were fired or suspended from their activities without just cause in Mozambique in 2021.
Of this number, just over half lost their employment – mainly in the tourism sector – because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The figures were quoted on Saturday (30-04) by the secretary general of the OTM Central Union, Alexandre Munguambe, during a debate on Radio Mozambique’s ‘Linha Directa’ programme
The main celebrations of International Workers’ Day, on Sunday, May 1st, took place in Xai-Xai, Gaza province, under the motto “Trade unions in the fight against precarious work and high cost of living”.
