A 20-year-old man was kidnapped in central Maputo on Friday, police have announced – the Mozambican capital’s second crime of that type in a week.
The kidnapping took place at about 10 p.m., between Ho Chi Min and Filipe Samuel Magaia avenues.
The victim, a man of Mozambican nationality with Indian roots, was taken from his car at gunpoint and driven away in another car, said a police spokesman quoted by STV television.
This was the second abduction in the same week in central Maputo.
On Tuesday, the son of a businessman in the commercial sector was kidnapped near his house close to the Presidency of the Mozambican Republic.

The Attorney General of the Republic last week accused “some” police officers, investigators, lawyers and magistrates of involvement in the kidnappings.
Attorney-General Beatriz Buchili was speaking in parliament on Thursday, where she said that kidnappings have been on the rise, and that the criminal groups involved have cross-border connections, maintaining cells in countries such as South Africa.
