Mozambique’s ranking unchanged in corruption index

Mozambique’s economy and finance minister is taking part in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group WBG) – taking place from Monday, April 18, through Sunday, April 24.in Washington U.S.A – where Max Tonela is scheduled to meet with several personalities from international financial institutions.
According to the agenda consulted by Lusa, Max Tonela and the delegation accompanying him are taking part in the meeting on “Policy dialogue to maximise growth in the face of debt vulnerability in sub-Saharan Africa,” on Monday a meeting that will be held about “Using opportunities to overcome challenges”.
Later today, Tonela is scheduled to hold a courtesy meeting with the World Bank Executive Director for the African Constituency, Taufila Nyamadzabo, and a bilateral meeting with the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina.
Relations between the Bretton Woods financial institutions and Maputo recently reached a new level, with the IMF’s announcement of the resumption of international financial assistance to the State Budget, after the suspension in 2016 triggered by the discovery of the so-called hidden debts.
Last week, the Mozambican economy and finance minister announced that the ADB would start giving money to the State Budget again from 2023. The World Bank also signalled the resumption of this type of support, but without specifying dates.
