On Monday, 28 March, Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated the Water Supply System in Inhassoro, built with funds from Sasol and ENH – Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos.
With an investment of MZN 280 Million, this infrastructure will benefit approximately 70% of the population of Inhassoro, assisting close to 3 thousand households, by the end of this year.
In his speech, Filipe Nyusi thanked Sasol for the investment on the improvement of the wellbeing of these communities surrounding its operations and recommended the population to preserve the water supply system, in order to increase the life span of this infrastructure.
The project increases access of water supply services, which will contribute to the reduction of diseases resulting from the consumption of improper water.
One of the main pillars of Sasol’s social responsibility projects is water supply, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, concerning universal and equitable access to safe and potable water.
Under the Local Development Agreements (LDA), during last year, Sasol delivered several water supply infrastructures to the communities of Govuro and Inhassoro. There were 51 rehabilitated water boreholes and another 10 built from scratch, besides the 8 water systems. Of this lot, 42 benefited the communities of Inhassoro District and 19 benefited those of Govuro District, north of Inhambane.
