The Commander General of the PRM, Bernardino Rafael, said yesterday that measures were being undertaken to completely restore security on the island of Matemo, in Cabo Delgado, which has been under attack by terrorists.
Bernardino Rafael indicated that several specialised police units are heading to the area to neutralise possible caches of weapons used by the terrorists.
“We sent a canine unit, which will try to better clarify the caves where we suspect [the terrorists] may have hidden something – weapons or something could be there and so we are going to clarify that, with this unit. Another police unit is also arriving to reinforce units already there, with a view to sweeping the island and declaring it free of terrorism,” Rafael said.
The number of terrorists killed by the Defence and Security Forces following the invasion of Matemo island rose from ten to 18.
Two terrorists were also captured during operations on the island.
