Cabo Delgado Reconstruction Plan under analysis in Pemba

Representatives of the Cabo Delgado provincial government, various political stakeholders, civil society and religious representatives, academics and partners are meeting in the city of Pemba this Wednesday (23-03) to consider the challenges and opportunities in the implementation of the Cabo Delgado Reconstruction Plan (PRCD).

The roundtable, on the theme “Contribution of Civil Society Organisations (OCS) in the Implementation of the Cabo Delgado Reconstruction Plan – Challenges and Opportunities” aims to raise awareness among the stakeholders involved of the need for the active engagement of civil society and community leaders, to reduce the risk of failure in its implementation.

“It is expected that this debate will identify the main challenges and opportunities for civil society organisations, so that they can contribute to a better implementation of the PRCD, and, in this way, reflect on the possible ways to remove barriers identified in its implementation,” says the joint communiqué of the Institute for Multiparty Democracy (IMD) and the Forum of Civil Society Organisations of Cabo Delgado (FOCADE), who are promoting the initiative.

The organisers understand that unsatisfactory engagement of civil society organisations and community leaders in the implementation of the PRCD could compromise the results, as they play an important role in promoting peace and reconciliation, providing humanitarian aid and strengthening the provision of services to communities, as well as in monitoring the implementation of the plan.

The meeting is expected to identify the main challenges and opportunities so that civil society organisations can better help implement the plan, by reflecting on possible ways to remove barriers to its implementation.
