Cabo Delgado: Ten terrorists killed on Matemo, navigation off the island prohibited – RM

Ten terrorists were killed by the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) on the island of Matemo, in Cabo Delgado province, on Wednesday.

Those killed were part of a group that attacked the island in Ibo district early on Wednesday, according to the spokesman for the provincial command of the PRM, in Cabo Delgado, Ernesto Madongue.

Madingue told the media that, upon learning about the attack, the FDS deployed an air and maritime force to the island, and there fought a fierce battle. In addition to the ten killed, various war materials were seized.

Madongue said that the terrorists are still on the island and had mingled with the population. The FDS would remain on the island to clarify the situation.

He urged the population to continue to assist the FDS in the operation.

For security reasons, navigation off the island has been prohibited, Madongue added.
