Mozambique: President swears in 'dream team' Council of State - Photos

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, receives this Thursday, March 17, the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, for official conversations.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is carrying out an official visit to the Republic of Mozambique, between the 17th and 20th of March.
According to a press release from the Presidency, the talks between Nyusi and Marcelo will include specific issues of bilateral cooperation, trade and investment boosting, and strengthening the resilience of the two countries to face the economic and social impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change and other threats to international peace and security.
“Still during the talks, information will be exchanged on the campaigns of the two countries’ candidacies for Non-Permanent Membership of the United Nations Security Council, as a contribution to the promotion, maintenance and management of international peace, security and stability,” the document reads.
In addition to the meetings at the Presidency of the Republic and at the Assembly of the Republic, the visit of the Portuguese Head of State will have a strong military component and a business dimension, according to a message on the Portuguese Presidency’s website.
While in the country, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will visit the Mozambican School of Marines, within the scope of bilateral cooperation in the area of defence.
The President of Portugal will visit two training centres, one located at the Katembe Independent Marine Company, on Saturday, and the other at the Dongo military training camp, in Manica province, on Sunday.
During his stay in Mozambique, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will also inaugurate, together with the President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi, a Grupo Visabeira tourist development in the Maputo National Park.
In the Mozambican capital, Rebelo de Sousa will visit the Portuguese School of Mozambique, as well as the Eduardo Mondlane University, to mark 30 years of cooperation between the UEM’s Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, as well as meeting with the Portuguese community.
Rebelo de Sousa and Filipe Nyusi will on Saturday inaugurate the Aga Khan Academy in Mozambique, in the presence of Prince Rahim Aga Khan.
Still today, Nyusi will offer an Official Banquet in honour of Marcelo Reebelo de Sousa, an occasion that will serve for the exchange of views on the internal situation of the two countries, as well as their respective regions, continents and the world in general.
This will be the third time that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has visited Mozambique, as President of the Portuguese Republic, the first being in 2016 and the second in 2020.

10:45 am – Welcoming ceremony at the Presidency of the Republic of Mozambique:
– Military Honours: National Anthems, review of the Guard of Honour, presentation of the delegations and parade of the Guard of Honour;
– One-on-one meeting with the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi;
– Meeting of the Presidents of the Republic extended to delegations;
– Declarations by the two Heads of State to the media.
12:30 pm – Ceremony for laying the wreath at the Monument to Mozambican Heroes.
16:00 – Visit to the Portuguese School of Mozambique and delivery of the Miguel Torga and Baltazar Rebelo de Sousa awards.
19:00 – Official dinner offered by the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, in honour of the President of the Republic of Portugal at the Ponta Vermelha Palace.
Friday, March 18
9:00 am – Meeting with the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, Esperança Laurinda Bias.
11:00 am – Opening ceremony of the Montebelo Milibangalala Bay and Resort by the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, and the President of the Republic.
17:00 – Ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Cooperation between the Faculty of Law of the Eduardo Mondlane University and the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.
Saturday, March 19
10:30 am – Visit to the School of Mozambican Marines in Katembe, within the scope of bilateral cooperation in the field of defence.
11:40 am – Visit to the military training centre at the Independent Marine Company in Katembe, within the framework of the European Union Military Training Mission (EUTM) in Mozambique.
15:30 – Inauguration of the Aga Khan Academy by the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, and by the President of the Republic, in the presence of Prince Rahim Aga Khan.
Sunday, March 20
11:00 am – Visit to the Dongo military training center in Chimoio (Manica province), within the framework of the European Union Military Training Mission (EUTM) in Mozambique.
16:30 – Homage to the Portuguese soldiers killed in combat – Laying of a wreath next to the Monument to the Combatants at the Cemetery of S. José de Lhanguene in Maputo.
19:30 – Meeting with Portuguese community.
