Mozambique: Constitution review to end protests possible - president

The President of Frelimo and President of the Republic of Mozambique, Comrade Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, led on Friday (March 4th) afternoon, in Tete City, the second extraordinary session of the Frelimo Provincial Committee, extended to other staff within the scope of of his visit to that Province aimed at following up closely the drama caused by tropical depression Ana, which recently violently struck some provinces in the centre and north of the country, and at expressing solidarity with the affected population.

Speaking about the objectives of the meeting with leading cadres of the Party, Nyusi highlighted the evaluation of the performance of the Party bodies, of the processes of Preparation of the Congresses of the Party Congresses, of the of the OMM [Frelimo women’s league] and of the OJM [Frelimo’s youth league] and of the National Conference of the ACLLN [Association of National Liberation Struggle Combatants], the gathering of the sensitivity of the cadres of the province in around the processes of provincial, district and municipal decentralisation, the assessing of the population’s level of satisfaction with the fulfilment of municipal electoral manifestos and the outcome of the last general elections, the seeking of the local sentiment on the impact of the [Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration] DDR implementation process, among others issues of interest to the Party and society in general.

At the meeting, the President of Frelimo highlighted the importance of Party bodies. at all levels. being attentive to the governance processes and to the various programs and development initiatives of our Government, underway in the country, such as Energy for All, One District, One District Hospital among others, in order to be positive players in both their implementation and in the dissemination of their impact on the lives of the benefited population, aware that our governance program lasts for five years, therefore not everything will be done at once.
The President of Frelimo urged the Party’s bodies and the Party’s Social Organisations to continuously strengthen internal union and cohesion based on the spirit of national unity, particularly within social organizations, making the Conferences and Congresses to be held this year a time of celebration and reaffirmation of the sense of belonging to Frelimo.
Filipe Nyusi, urged the Party’s bodies to engage in the campaign to attract more members to the organisation, in the context of expanding the Party’s social base, and to improve the collection of membership fees, in the search for an effective sustainability of the Party.
