In Maputo on Wednesday, Frelimo praised the dedication of Filipe Nyusi, President of the Republic and of the party, in peace building and consolidation, national reconciliation and the development of the country.
In the party’s message of congratulation on the occasion of the President of the Republic’s 63rd birthday, Roque Silva said that Mozambicans were proud of the delivery and the way in which he had led the nation’s destinies.
“We express our pride and satisfaction for this anniversary. Congratulations, Comrade President, for another year of life, whose importance is not limited to your growth in age, but extends to everything you have done for the people you swore to serve,” the Frelimo secretary general said.
For Silva, the president’s dedication to the construction and consolidation of peace, the reconciliation of the Mozambican family and the development of the country, and his selfless effort in the growth of the region and of the continent, place Nyusi in the highest levels of distinction.
Silva was speaking on behalf Frelimo party bodies such as the Political Commission, the Association of Combatants of the National Liberation Struggle (ACLLN), the Mozambican Women’s Organization (OMM) and the Mozambican Youth Organization (OJM).
The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, said, for his part, that his government was making efforts to restore honour to Mozambicans, with a focus on combating terrorism, consolidating peace, responding to the Covid-19 pandemic and mitigating the impact. of climate change.
Observing that the country was cyclically impacted by natural disasters that tested the resilience of infrastructure, President Nyusi said his government had managed to respond to the challenges posed by climate change.
Nyusi highlighted lasting peace as among the challenges of the current governance cycle, despite the progress made in the process of disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR) of Renamo and Military Junta personnel.
“We are successfully managing conflicts with our Renamo brothers. In a few days, we will make an assessment with the Renamo leadership to see how the process is progressing. The attacks carried out by the Military Junta also delayed the search for lasting peace in the country,” the head of state said.
He added that the Covid-19 pandemic had reduced levels of socio-economic growth, forcing the government to redirect financial resources to address the impact of the disease on the health system and on the lives of Mozambicans.
“We are fighting to restore the honour of the country for the people – who freed themselves from the colonial yoke with great merit. We note your recognition of the efforts we have been making towards the development of the country,” he concluded.
