A total of 235 combatants of the national liberation struggle, who currently constitute “local militias” active in the fight against terrorism in districts of Cabo Delgado, have received Medals of Merit for Military Bravery for their selfless dedication.
The President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence and Security Forces, Filipe Nyusi, who witnessed the awarding of 35 combatants in Mueda, explained that the gesture aimed to value the achievements of those men who, as in previous days, had volunteered in defence of our sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The fighters do not regret; they seek solutions and are protecting the districts of Mueda, Palma, Mocimboa da Praia, among others,” the president said.
A total of 1,760 citizens received awards throughout the national territory on the occasion of Heroes’ Day, under the law on Honorary Titles and Decorations.
