The Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane, says that greater effectiveness in combatting smuggling and other tax fraud throughout the country could translate into an increase in revenue collection rates for the state coffers.
For this year, the tax revenue target was set to 293 billion meticais, and the government understands that the achievement of this target will require an increased effort from the tax system, especially with regard to expanding the tax base and the fight against tax fraud.
The minister was speaking in the district of Boane, province of Maputo, on Wednesday, during an event that marked the official launch of the patenting process of 1,930 Tax Authority of Mozambique employees.
The minister said that the adversities that the national economy faces result from the combination of several factors, internal and external, and should awaken in AT employees a spirit of greater dedication to meet the challenge of building a prosperous country with a sustainable economy.
