Mozambique: Water levels rise in the northern river basins - Notícias

In support of Forças Armadas de Defesa de Moçambique (FADM), SAMIM forces recently concluded two major operations which started in October 2021 and completed in January 2022. These operations led to the capture and destruction of several Al Sunnah wa Jama’ah (ASWJ) terrorists’ bases in the area East of Chai settlement and River Messalo in Macomia District, Cabo Delgado Province. During these operations, thirty-one (31) terrorists were killed whilst sixteen (16) women, eight (8) children and two elderly males believed to have been abducted by the terrorists were rescued. The victims are under the care of national authorities.
Furthermore, SAMIM forces have confiscated weapons that include five (5) RPG 7 launchers, five (5) PKM Machine Guns and forty-eight (48) AK47 rifles and grenades. Other equipment confiscated include vehicles, motorbikes, cell phones and technological devices. During Operation Buffalo, SAMIM Forces met strong resistance from the terrorists but nonetheless, SAMIM Forces were able to inflict fatal casualties and disrupt ASWJ activities as well as continue to dominate and pursue the terrorists in the operational area. On a somber note, SAMIM forces suffered three casualties during these offensives; one fatality and two injuries whilst FADM suffered six casualties with two fatalities. Our deepest condolences go to the bereaved families, friends and country. The injured members are recuperating and on their way to full recovery.
On 28th December 2021 to 5th January 2022, the Force Commander, Major General Xolani Mankayi visited troops in the frontline on a debriefing mission. Major General Mankayi commended the Special Forces for their gallantry in being able to disrupt the ASWJ in areas they thought no one would ever locate them. He urged them to continue exhibiting military professionalism and courage as they assist the Government of Mozambique in fighting terrorism and violent extremism. The Force Commander also had an opportunity to interact with community leaders in the operational area who vowed to assist SAMIM Forces in their pursuit to bring stability to Cabo Delgado Province. He assured community leaders that SAMIM will do all it can to fulfill its mandate.
Moreover, during the festive month of December, SAMIM Forces donated Christmas Hampers to ‘Save our Soul’s’ (SOS) Children’s Village in Pemba. Additionally, Botswana Contingent through their Special Forces based in Mueda District also donated equipment and supplies to Mueda Rural Hospital. One of SAMIM’s mandate is to provide support to the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, in collaboration with humanitarian agencies in the Republic of Mozambique, to continue providing humanitarian relief to the population affected by the terrorist activities, including the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS).
SAMIM forces in support of the Government of Mozambique continue to create conditions necessary for a return to normal life in the Province of Cabo Delgado as it pursues the terrorists. SAMIM would like to assure the people of Mozambique and SADC of a collective commitment to achieving a peaceful, stable and secure Cabo Delgado as well as the entire country of Mozambique.
