President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, is in Lilongwe, Republic of Malawi, this Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 and 12 January, 2022, participating in an Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government .
The actual summit will take place on Wednesday, preceded today, Tuesday, January 11, by an Extraordinary SADC Troika Summit, plus Personnel Contributing Countries and the Republic of Mozambique.
Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa and Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation is chairing the Troika meeting.
The SADC Personnel Contributing Countries are Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, the United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia.
The Lilongwe SADC Troika Summit will review the progress of the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) in its fight against the terrorism affecting some districts in the north of Cabo Delgado province, as well as recommending steps to intensify operations to eradicate the scourge of terrorism and violent extremism in the region.
President Filipe Nyusi is accompanied by the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Veronica Macamo Dlhuvu and of the Interior, Arsénia Massingue, plus staff of the Presidency of the Republic and other state institutions.
