President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique arrived in Blantyre, Malawi this morning for a three-day state visit from Monday 22nd to 24th November.
A statement from the Malawi’s Ministry or Foreign Affairs had announced the visit as follows:
“Apart from holding bilateral talks with His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Filipe Jacinto Nyusi will be a Special Guest of Honour at the 5th SADC Industrialisation Week on 22nd November, 2021 at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe,” reads the statement.
The visit will be preceded by the Malawi/Mozambique senior officials meeting on 20th November.
President Nyusi and First Lady Iaura Nyusi arrived at the Kamuzu International airport at 10 o’clock where he was welcomed by President Chakwera and the First Lady Monica where after inspecting a guard of honour, they will depart for the Civic offices.
Nyusi is to sign the visitors’ book and be presented with a dummy key by the Mayor of the City of Lilongwe Juliana Kaduya, granting him the Freedom of the City. Thereafter they will head to the Kamuzu Mausoleum where he will lay a wreath where Malawi’s founding President Hastings Kamuzu Banda lays.
Thereafter, Presidents Nyusi and Chawera will visit the Malawi Parliament where the visiting President will plant a tree outside the VVIP Lounge.
Later on, the Mozambican President will officially open the 5th SADC Industrialisation Week at BICC at 2 pm today.
Chakwera will in the evening host a State Banquet in honour of the visiting President and Madame Isaura Nyusi, at the Kamuzu Palace.
Railway Line Connection Project and Mozambique-Malawi Interconnector Power Project
On Tuesday, the two leaders will leave for Marka, Nsanje where they will be conducted on a tour of the Railway Line Connection Project and will cross the border into Villa Nova, Mozambique.
They will also visit Phombeya, Balaka on a tour of the Mozambique-Malawi Interconnector Power Project (IPP) site
On his last day in Malawi on Wednesday, Chakwera, and Nyusi, will hold a joint press briefing.
The Mozambican leader was the previous SADC Chairman before handing over to Chakwera in August this year.
