Mozambican international off-road motorcyclist Paulo Oliveira has won the bronze medal in the final round of the Baja World Cup (‘Baja Portalegre 500’) in Alentejo, Portugal.
In the grand finale, Paulo Oliveira, who started second in the league chart, was close to taking first position, if not for the his exit from the track on the second day of the race.
The Baja Portalegre 500 is part of the International Automobile Federation’s Cross Country Rally World Cup, as well as the Baja Motorcycle World Cup.
“We started the race in second place in the world championship, and our main objective was to reach first place. On the first day, we were close and finished second. On the second day, we had an exit from the track that made us lose a lot of time and we were a little bit battered, and we had to manage until the end of the race, and took home a bronze medal, which ends up being very positive,” Paulo Oliveira said.
With this stage completed, attention now turns to the great All-terrain Rally World Championship, Dakar 2022, which will be held in Saudi Arabia, for which the Mozambican delegation will depart in December.
“Right now, we will continue to work towards Dakar. There are two months to go before the premier event in motorcycling and motorsport in Saudi Arabia, where we are travelling in December,” he noted.
Paulo Oliveira was recently honoured by the Municipal Council of Maputo for his commitment to motorsport and for spreading the name of Mozambique abroad. His portfolio includes participation in competitions in countries such as Morocco, Jordan, Portugal, Spain and Qatar, among others.
Oliveira’s participation in Portalegre was sponsored by the Mozambican Insurance Company (EMOSE), Access Bank, Cine Group, Cotur Travel Agency, Salvador Caetano Group, Intelec Holdings, Trassus, the Secretary of State for Sports, the Mozambican Federation of Automobile and Motorcycling (FMAM) and by ATCM.
