Montepuez, the second largest city in the province of Cabo Delgado, today celebrates the 50th anniversary of its elevation to city status.
According to the city’s mayor, Cecílio Chabane, one of the main challenges of his government was to transform Montepuez into the “city with the greatest number of paved roads” [in the province], as well as the province’s best-illuminated, and that offering the greatest availability of water to its residents, Noticias reports.
According to figures released to mark the occasion, so far more than 4.5 kilometres of the road network have been tarred, and more than 600 meters paved, in addition to numerous routine interventions.
In the area of health, centres for the provision of basic services had been built and rehabilitated; buses were purchased for public transport; there was an expansion of the electricity network, and tourist complexes had been constructed with the participation of the private sector, among other actions aimed at improving the lives of citizens.
