Great demand for decoders marked the first week since the permanent suspension of analogue television broadcasting in Maputo.
Since Monday, it is no longer possible to access television content through the analogue signal, making it necessary to have a decoder to access the digital signal.
In a round of visits to points of sale, Radio Mozambique found an numerous citizens looking for decoders. They, in turn, complained of shortages.
Some Maputo residents claimed they were being charged and extra amount to ‘activate’ the decoders.
The suspension of analogue transmission means decoders are vital for access to the television signal.
Analogue televisions therefore need decoders provided by the Transport, Multiplication and Transmission company (TMT), the public operator responsible for transmission.
