Mozambique’s National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH) and MozGas UK, with British capital, will carry out exploration and research activities in the Mazenga block in Inhambane province, an official source told Lusa on Thursday.
“For now, the concessionaires should carry out the predefined work, which includes evaluation of existing data, reprocessing and 2D seismic acquisition, which may lead later to the opening of exploration holes,” said Carlos Zacarias, president of the National Petroleum Institute.

MozGas UK has an 80% stake in the block, and ENH has a 20% stake. The reprocessing of the first data obtained last year in the first phase of preliminary analyses is underway: more than three thousand kilometres of seismic data and other information from the block.
The Mazenga block is within the so-called Mozambique basin. This area covers the south and part of the centre and is famous for the Pande and Temane projects, which South African multinational Sasol has been exploring since 2004.
