O País / Maj Dube, says that Zimabwe's delay in paying the salaries of employees was due to the shortage of US dollars.
The Ambassador of Zimbabwe in Mozambique, Maj Dube, said on Wednesday (July 8) that the delay in paying the salaries of employees in his country was due to the shortage of US dollars, which are now the main currency of the country.
The Zimbabwean government says that it will pay the wages by 14 July and that each civil servant will receive US$100.
Maj Dube said that taxi driver protests in Harare on Tuesday were a response to the strengthening of traffic inspections and that strong police contingents were on the streets solely to protect the public and their property.
The Zimbabwean embassy however guaranteed that the situation was under control and that the police were standing by in the cities to prevent further violence.
