The reconstruction of the Industrial and Commercial Institute of Beira (IICB) is now complete.
Work consisted of the requalification of spaces, coverage and installing of false ceilings in the buildings affected by Cyclone Idai in 2019.
Secretary of State for Sofala, Stella Zeca, this Monday recalled that Cyclone Idai struck Beira, while the rehabilitation works and re-equipping of this technical-professional teaching establishment was already underway.
In the wake of Idai, the IICB administrative block, the amphitheatre, laboratories and workshops were left without roofs and the perimeter wall was damaged.
IICB has meanwhile received a donation of €1.2 million from the German bank KFW, exclusively for emergency works not included in the institution’s previous rehabilitation, expansion and requalification project.
This initiative allowed the government and partners to carry out their intention to transform the IICB into a national reference institution. It will operate according to a new training model, ensuring that its graduates have the intellectual capacities to satisfy the demands of the labour market.
Since 2008, the KFW bank has invested €7.3 million in the rehabilitation, extension and equipping of the institute’s workshops. The laboratories and classrooms are now equipped for courses in Industrial Mechanics, Auto Mechanics, Civil Construction and Electricity.
