Mozambique: Exam boycott affected about 35,000 students

On Tuesday, August 31, the neighbouring Republic of South Africa deported 246 Mozambicans for various offenses, principally illegal migration (223).
Speaking at the regular media briefing on Thursday (September 02), National Migration Service (SENAMI) spokesperson Celestino Matsinhe revealed that 23 [in this batch] had committed the crimes of: robbery (18), poaching (two), rape (one), murder (one) and physical aggression (one).
Of the deportees, aged between 17 and 68 years, 235 were male and 11 female. They were destined for the city of Maputo (72) and the provinces of Maputo (26), Gaza (73), Inhambane (30), Manica (24), Sofala (16), Niassa (three) and Tete (two).
The South African authorities deported a total of 2,479 Mozambicans in August – an average of 79.9 per day. Illegal immigration was the chief offence.
