Industrialise Mozambique: First projects for Cabo Delgado and Niassa – Noticias

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has just agreed financing for the first ‘Industrialise Mozambique’ programme projects in Cabo Delgado and Niassa provinces.
The projects focus on improving agricultural sector production chain viability, through the Sustenta programme and the creation of agro-processing industries.
The milestone was announced by Minister of Industry and Commerce, Carlos Mesquita, during a working visit to the Coca-Cola factory in Matola-Gare on Wednesday.
“Industrializar Moçambique”, a presidential initiative that forms part of the implementation of the government’s five-year plan, aims to help increase production in the sector through the use of local raw materials, stimulating commercialisation and generating employment and income for young people and women.
Minister Mesquita said that the government would create a specialised technical unit to manage and implement the initiative.
“We want the projects submitted to take into account the location of the raw material that can direct new industries to these points, stimulating the productivity and competitiveness of national production and the development of the country as a whole, through the internationalisation of Mozambican products,” he said.
The minister also explained that the government was committed to improving legislation aimed at enhancing the business environment.
“Experience shows us that some national and foreign investors are not concerned with tax incentives, but with the improvement of the business environment, including the time taken to process documentation, transparency, work visas, aspects considered crucial for the swift development of projects,” he observed.
