Exxon Mobil and Qatar Petroleum oil have joined efforts to prepare the purchase of assets of US company Anadarko and Italy’s ENI in Mozambique, deepening their focus on the country and bringing some relief to impoverished Mozambique’s state revenues.
“Exxon Mobil and Qatar Petroleum have teamed up to look at energy assets in Mozambique, home to some of the biggest natural-gas discoveries in a generation, according to four people with knowledge of their plans,” financial information agency Bloomberg wrote yesterday.
According to Bloomberg, the two companies are considering buying some of Anadarko and ENI’s gas assets, leveraging the strong relationship that they already have in other investments and in the economies of scale that they could benefit from, although no agreement has yet been signed.
