Mozambican sports, and futsal in particular, is in mourning following the death on Sunday morning of former national futsal team coach, Inácio Sambo.
Sambo passed away after being hospitalised in Chimoio, Manica province.
Known as “Mister Futsal”, Inácio Sambo was one of the sport’s greatest promoters, and was instrumental in enabling Mozambique to participate in the World Futsal Grand Prix in Brazil.
Moreover, he was among those responsible for the fourth place achieved by the National Futsal Team in 2008.
Sambo also had a hand in the creation, in 2007, of the National Futsal Commission, a process that had the support of the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF).
Sambo was a futsal instructor for the African Football Confederation (CAF) and a sports commentator for STV, where he collaborated, since the channel’s inception, on several sports programmes.
