A statement from the Mozambique Civil Aviation Institute (IACM) regulatory authority reveals that a single-engine Cessna 206 with South African registration Zu-SBP, in the service of Mozambican logistics company ‘Truth North’, took off on Monday from the Afungi airstrip bound for Pemba with only the pilot on board.
According to the IACM, while en route, engine failure occurred, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing on a beach near the town of Mocímboa da Praia.
The pilot was unharmed and was promptly rescued by a Mozambique Air Force helicopter.
The IACM has appointed a team of accident investigators from the Mozambique Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority to probe the causes of the engine failure.
