Maputo devises periodic rehabilitation of avenues and streets – Rádio Moçambique

More than 30 of Maputo city’s streets and avenues are in an advanced state of degradation, councillor for land use planning, urbanisation and the environment on Maputo Municipal Council Silva Magaia admitted on Wednesday.

But there is a plan for the periodic rehabilitation of, among others, Xiquelene-Praça da Juventude on Avenida Julius Nyerere, and the Avenida da ONU next to the Ka Tembe access bridge.

“Filling potholes is not a technically viable solution. As you can see, we fill the hole and two or three months later we have to go fill the same hole. This is not because the job is not being done well, it is because we are using a palliative solution. The solution is maintenance that happens cyclically, at least every five years, in which we change [the stretch] completely, do the resealing. Instead of filling in hole by hole, we lay a continuous mat on the road. We are going to do some this year, and then we will have the opportunity to compare and witness the difference between filling holes and resealing,” Councillor Magaia said.

Magaia was speaking this Wednesday (July 21) at the inauguration of Rua de São Paulo in Bairro 25 de Junho, a ceremony directed by Mayor Eneas Comiche, who also called for the conservation of infrastructure.

The rehabilitation of Rua de São Paulo, between Avenida de Moçambique and Rua da Paz, cost more than 27 million meticais [US$424,461 at current exchange rates].

Projecto de reabilitação periódica de ruas e avenidas da cidade de Maputo

Mais de trinta estradas, entre ruas e avenidas, da cidade de Maputo apresentam-se em avançado estado de degradação.

A informação foi prestada esta quarta-feira, pelo vereador para a área de ordenamento territorial, Urbanização e Ambiente, no Conselho Municipal de Maputo.

Silva Magaia, assegurou que já existe um projecto de reabilitação periódica, destas rodovias.

A iniciativa inclui entre outros, intervenções nos troços, Xiquelene- Praça da Juventude, na avenida Julius Nyerere; e a avenida da ONU, junto da ponte de acesso à Ka tembe.

“Tapar o buraco não é solução tecnicamente viável. Como vêm, a gente tapa o buraco e dois ou três meses depois é preciso ir tapar o mesmo buraco. Isto não é porque o trabalho não seja bem feito, é porque estamos a usar uma solução paliativa. A solução é aquela manutenção que acontece ciclicamente, no mínimo de cinco em cinco anos, em que mudamos completamente, fazemos a resselagem. Em vez de estarmos a tapar buraco por buraco, lançamos um tapete contínuo na estrada. Vamos fazer, como disse, nalgumas vias neste presente ano e aí teremos a oportunidade de comparar e testemunhar a diferença entre tapar buraco e fazer a resselagem”, disse.

O Vereador para área do ordenamento territorial, Urbanização e Ambiente, no Conselho Municipal de Maputo falava, esta quarta-feira na inauguração da rua de São Paulo, no Bairro 25 de Junho.

A cerimónia foi dirigida pelo edil, Eneas Comiche, que na ocasião apelou para a conservação da infra-estrutura.
