The Pedagogical University of Maputo paid an academic tribute on Friday to Professors Brazão Mazula, Filipe Couto and Carlos Machili for their contribution to education in Mozambique.
Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Helena Kida, said in her speech that the recognition of these unavoidable figures in the history of education in Mozambique was an opportunity to pass on testimony of their achievements to society, and to young people in particular.
The Rector of the Pedagogical University of Maputo said that the tribute to Professors Brazão Mazula, Filipe Couto and Carlos Machili acknowledged their achievements as intellectuals and guardians of values promoting human dignity.
Jorge Ferrão said that those being honoured had endowed the university with their wisdom.
Professor Brazão Mazula was the first president of the National Elections Commission (CNE) and former rector of Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM); Professor Filipe Couto was a former rector of UEM and of the Catholic University of Mozambique (UCM); and Professor Carlos Machile was rector of the former Pedagogical University (UP).
All three hail from Niassa province, hence “The Tribute to the Three Humanists of Niassa”.
