Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera has condemned as “ugly” decorations that had been put up to celebrate Independence Day on Tuesday.
He said: “When you see people putting ugly decorations on roundabouts, stop and ask them, is what you are doing making Malawi better?”
The president was referring to decorations on a roundabout that featured red fabric and green fairy lights.
During his Independence Day speech, the President of Malawi described the day’s decorations as “atrocious” and “embarrassing” and not befitting a country celebrating 57 years of independence.

President Chakwera also criticised some ministers’ Facebook posts saying: “When you see a Minister posting nonsense on social media, ask them: is what you are doing making Malawi better?”
