Air France this Sunday (20 June) incorporated Maputo among its destinations, as an optional extension of its Paris-Johannesburg flight.
In mid-April, when the airline first announced the flight, Air France-KLM’s director general for Southern Africa, Wouter Vermeulen, noted that Mozambique had emerged “as an important business destination due to its rich natural energy reserves”.
Vermeulen at the time mentioned the natural gas projects in the north of the country, with emphasis on the activities of the French oil company Total.
The airline says that tourism “is also an important asset in Mozambique that Air France should take advantage of”.
The Johannesburg – Maputo route uses Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with remodelled cabins. Flights from Charles de Gaulle airport, in the French capital, take place on Sundays and Thursdays, returning on Mondays and Fridays.
