Mozambique: Human Rights Association files criminal complaint against Frelimo deputy - AIM report
Daily News / President Nyusi with Zambia's Edgar Lundu at the opening of the Ndola Trade Fair
President Filipe Nyusi on Sunday said that Mozambique and Zambia are to work together to increase productivity and production to promote the prosperity of the people. He added that the two countries need to develop concrete actions to consolidate regional integration in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
President Nyusi was speaking in the Zambian city of Ndola during the official opening of the Zambia International Trade Fair. He was invited to the event by his Zambian counterpart, Edgar Lungu.
The President stressed the need to optimise the use of resources through collaborative programmes on infrastructure, energy, agriculture, tourism, education, and scientific research. He added that, in order to overcome barriers to international markets, Africa should deepen south-south cooperation.
However, he lamented that, despite its potential, agriculture continues to be predominantly subsistence farming with low levels of productivity due to limited access to markets and credit.
The President stated, “we are going to replace imported agricultural produce and reduce the cost of living, particularly for those sections of the population with low incomes”.
He added that Mozambique is ready to work with Zambia to identify opportunities to strengthen cross-border economic exchange.
The President was being accompanied by the recently appointed Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Rajendra de Sousa, and the governor of Tete province Paulo Auade. Other members of the delegation include the Tete provincial director for agriculture and food security, the administrators of the districts of Zumbo, Maravia, and Chifunde, and staff from the President’s office.
The fair has over five hundred exhibitors, with more than a hundred international stalls from countries such as Botswana, China, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, and Zimbabwe.
The fair runs from 29 June until 5 July.
