Vodacom Moçambique was forced to interrupt, with effect from this Thursday, 17 June, the interconnection with the mobile phone operator TMCel, the company announces in a press release.
The decision stems from a debt of around 600 million meticais, (around US$9.6 million) which TMCel owes under the interconnection contract allowing customers of one operator to communicate with those of the other via voice calls and text messages (SMS).
After successive defaults by TMCel, Vodacom has suspended interconnection, in order to prevent the debt, which has been accumulating since 2018, growing any larger.
The interruption will prevent TMCel customers making voice calls to Vodacom customers, while Vodacom network users will continue to enjoy full interconnectivity.
In order to ensure continued communication, SMS services will be maintained, as Vodacom values its provision of a public service bringing quality communication to all Mozambicans.
