Mozambique: Alleged police officers kidnap former colleague in Beira – O País report

A group of armed men kidnapped on Monday night in Beira, Alexandre Nguiliche, a former agent of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM).

The kidnappers, who identified themselves as PRM agents, arrived a Niguiliche’s house at around 9 pm, his wie Laura Fernando told O País..

“First, they slammed on the door saying they wanted help to rescue a person who was allegedly being attacked by criminals in restaurant near our house. My husband refused to help. Then they identified themselves as police officers and asked my husband to step out, but he still refused”, said the victim’s wife.

She said that the kidnappers “split, three of them placed themselves in an equal number of windows and the other two to three men, using stones, began to break down our only door. Everyone was holding pistols and shouting for my husband to come outside. He started to get dressed and, when he finished, part of the door had already given way and one of them put his hand inside, pointing a pistol”.

Laura Fernando added that her husband left the house, “having first asked me to go to our children’s room. When I left and turned on the lamp, they were dragging him and they put him by force into a vehicle”. Since then, she has not heard of her husband’s whereabouts.

“His phone is working but no one answers,” she said, in tears.

Our reporting team also called Alexandre Nguiliche and the result was the same. The number was active, but he didn’t answer.

Neighbours said they heard the noise of the door being forced open and thought it was a fight between the couple, so they didn’t go out to find out what was going on.

The victim is a former PRM agent who was stationed in Muanza district, Sofala, having been removed from the corporation at the end of last year due to alleged misconduct and was even detained for three months.

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique guaranteed that it will comment on this case in due course.
