Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric (HCB) has made a goodwill donation of five million meticais to the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) in solidarity with the victims of terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
At the symbolic handover at the INGD premises on Monday, INGD president Luísa Meque stressed the relevance of the gesture as a response to the solidarity campaigns that the institution has mounted to minimise the suffering of many Mozambicans in dire circumstances, such as the victims of terrorist attacks in northern Mozambique.
Luísa Meque said that the amount delivered by HCB would significantly aid the INGD’s purchases for those in need, and urged everyone to join the cause. “We again call on everyone to join this campaign to support our brothers and sisters, who are victims of terrorism,” she urged.
HCB chairman Moisés Machava began by addressing a message of comfort and solidarity to those facing difficulties in Cabo Delgado, saying it was because the HCB was aware of their suffering that it “went to the INGD facilities to deliver a check for five million meticais”.
Machava acknowledged that the support [around US$82,014 at current exchange rates] was far from all that was needed, but challenged other Mozambicans to contribute to restoring the dignity of victims of terrorism in the north of the country.
