Wife of the President of the Republic, First Lady Isaura Nyusi, on Friday (28-05) conducted a seminar in Quelimane, Zambézia province, to evaluate and plan activities of the Movement for Advocacy, Awareness and Mobilisation of Literacy Resources (MASMA), and involve the spouses of the secretaries of state and provincial governors in the initiative.
The event aims overall to mobilise national and foreign non-governmental organisations, civil society, the private sector and other key stakeholders in actively and collectively reducing illiteracy rates in Mozambique, currently standing at around 39%, according to the 2017 INE Census.
The Ministry of Education and Human Development, through the National Directorate for Adult Literacy (DINEA), has designed an action plan to improve literacy among young people and adults in Mozambique over the period 2021-2029, aiming to the rate from 39% to 26% by 2024, and to 23% by 2029.
