Sara João Mapossa, a 32-year-old mother, and her three children, aged between five and 16, have been found dead at their home in the Nhamaonha neighbourhood of Chimoio city, capital of Manica province.
According to Luís Pedro, head of the neighbourhood’s Zona 17B, there are good grounds for thinking that the deceased were victims of a ‘crime of passion’.
“I asked the neighbours round here, and they said that the housewife’s boyfriend was seen leaving the house on Tuesday and closing the main door and doing the security bars. The neighbours thought that she might have entrusted him with looking after the house, and that she and the children might have gone away,” Pedro said.
According to Luis Pedro, the bodies were discovered after the alleged murderer, whose whereabouts are still unknown, sent a phone message to a stepdaughter living in Muxúnguè.
“The lover had the deceased’s phone number and sent a message to her daughter saying ‘I killed your mother, because she spurned me’,” Pedro alleged.

The ‘O Pais’ reporting team attending the scene learned that the bodies, already in an advanced state of decomposition, had been removed by National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) experts for detailed examination.
