The Faculty of Engineering at Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) in Maputo on Thursday opened a new health, safety and environment laboratory.
MOZAL handed over the new Laboratory of Health, Safety and Environment to the Faculty of Engineering within the scope of the existing partnership between the two institutions aiming at the creation and improvement of teaching and learning conditions.
The laboratory will in particular support the Master’s degree programme in Health, Safety and Environment approved by the University Council in 2019.
In addition to the laboratory, MOZAL also donated a vehicle with mobile equipment to assist the collection of samples during field activities.
At the reception ceremony, Director of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Irene de Carvalho acknowledged the value of MOZAL’s support in the teaching and learning process, highlighting the success of the campus infrastructure rehabilitation plan.

In turn, Director of Corporate Affairs at MOZAL, Gil Cumaio, remarked that, within the scope of creating and improving teaching and learning conditions, rehabilitation and requalification work had been undertaken at the Microbiology and Water Laboratory, included expansion, reconditioning of the air conditioning and other components vital for its proper functioning.
Cumaio urged students, teachers and other employees to exercise the necessary care so that the equipment would serve as many users as possible, and in this way provide a good return on the investment.
