Through Ministerial Diploma No. 28/2021, of 30 April, the National Migration Service (SENAMI) has eliminated its fees for assistance and inspection of heavy vehicles, cars and motorcycles at borders, in force since 2007.
However, the same legal instrument increases the cost of non-biometric documents such as the border facility card, residence declaration for foreign citizens [DIRE] and the exit statement.
The border facility card, which previously cost 10.00 Meticais, now costs 50.00 Meticais, while the residency declaration for foreign citizens goes up from the current 296.00 Meticais to 500.00 Meticais. The declaration of departure (exit statement) rises from the current 126.00 Meticais to 250.00 Meticais.
Speaking on Thursday at the regular weekly press briefing, SENAMI spokesman Celestino Matsinhe did not offer any reason for either of the rate changes.
The spokesperson did however reveal that SENAMI had received a total of 316 visa extension requests from the 1st to the 7th of May, against 221 registered in the previous week, representing an increase of 20%. Maputo city led in the number of applications, with 113, while work visas made up the majority (186).
