With a view to minimising erosion and consequent damage to the road, Maputo’s Aevinada Marginal, between Triunfo and the Alcântara Santos junction, is getting an upgrade, including repairs to coastal protection barriers.
The intervention will also improve safety, particularly for beach users and those exercising along the Marginal.
According to a source at the contractor responsible, the work, which started recently, will be completed in about four months.
Part of the infrastructure, put in place seven years ago, was ruptured by high tides in late 2019, which exposed fragilities along some stretches.
Since then, the location in Triunfo has been off-limits on safety grounds.
Municipal authorities are also replacing the concrete structures between the Clube Naval and the Alcântara Santos, which have fallen into disrepair.
Residents also understand that the authorities will replace the old trees, as they represent a danger in circumstances where strong winds blow.
