Banda Silita is a traditional music group that was formed in December 1998. As a starting point, the group began its activities in one of the rooms of the Casa de Casa de Cultura do Alto Maé where they rehearsed using traditional instruments with a very peculiar sound which became evident in the way of playing the timbila (instrument whose sound is commonly associated with dance rhythms) contrary to the usual, making it gain a calmer rhythm, that is, by the fact of being a band that plays the timbila in a different way from the others that normally have played it to dance and they not only play it to dance but also play it in a softer and more particular way and you can sit and listen to it just like with Jazz.
In the beginning the members of BANDA SILITA were Simão Adriano Nhacule timbileiro, percussionist, composer and singer, the percussionist Laurindo Cuna and the dancer Tânia Jacobe on voice, composition and fine percussion. At this moment the band is composed by Simão Nhacule on timbila, percussion and voice, Linda Jamisse(Xizimba) on lead vocals and percussion and Amos Lamussene on timbila, percussion and vocals.
Their debut album ZIVA TAKO includes 10 compositions interpreted in Chichopi and chichopi and changana language. The album is a journey through the Mozambican daily life where inequality and hate are some of the dominant notes, in 2015 the group recorded their second album entitled N'TUMBUNUKU WATHU, which includes 11 compositions, sponsored by FUNDAC.
In terms of prospects, SILITA hopes to continue contributing to the the valorisation of traditional Mozambican music in the most diverse spaces.
