The government has decided to make an exception to the ban of chicken imports from South Africa, authorising the importation of hatching eggs, chicks and laying hens, provided that they do not come from the areas where the bird flu occurred in South Africa.
The measure aims to avoid a scarcity of products on the national market, according to the Mozambique Tax Authority spokesman Fernando Tinga.
“These products must not come from the provinces marked in red – Gauteng and North-West. When the eight companies declare their products, Customs, in coordination with employees of the provincial Directorate of Agriculture, will make and assessment to see if the declarations made are in accordance with what is established,” he explained.
There are eight companies that are authorised to import.
