Renowned Mozambican choreographer and dancer Lulu Sala will present a 20-minute-long dance performance this Friday, to be made available to the public online by the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre (CCFM).
On World Dance Day, celebrated annually on April 29, Lulu Sala prepared a performance that will be available for the public to view at 6:30 p.m. on Friday on the CCFM Facebook page and YouTube channel.
‘Motus Corporis’, choreographed by Lulu Sala and filmed by Ivan Barros, reflects a set of experiences accumulated by the dancer over the years. Likewise, the work in progress is a kind of dream, the dancer using stage art to share various dance styles he has been learning. It is a trip in a dream that involves several rhythms, such as hip-hop, traditional Mozambican dances and Latin dances.
In the performance, the dancer is shot from different angles. It was therefore difficult to prepare the 20-minute piece. “The issue of detachment was very complicated, not least because we were working at a time when things were suspended. But I had an excellent work team,” Sala said.
After the presentation of the work to the public on Friday, Lulu Sala will return to work on a longer version of Motus Corporis, to be presented in theatres later this year.
Lulu Sala says that the reopening of cultural centres comes at a good time, as artists, in general, and dancers, in particular, experienced great difficulty during their confinement.
“The confinement crippled us, in financial terms, and we saw trips and exchanged experiences cancelled. So, this April 29th is a time to celebrate renewed life,” he observed.
Performing at ‘Motus Crporis’ are Inês Duarte, Alexandra Matos, Francisca Mirine, Mai-Juli Machado Nhapulo. Eddie Amadeu de Sousa aka Dollas. Osvaldo Macha aka Deyssane and Carlota Teixeira.
