A gang of four men stole 1.4 million meticais (about €20,000) this Tuesday in a robbery in the centre of the Mozambican capital, a spokesman for the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in the city of Maputo has told Lusa.
The robbery occurred early on Wednesday morning, on Avenida Irmãos Roby, in the centre of Maputo, Leonel Muchina said. The victim was an employee of a company depositing cash – the institution’s revenues – in a local bank.
“They fired at the victim’s vehicle, which is said to have been stationary at the time, and took the suitcases with the money in them. Then, they got into another light vehicle and left,” the police spokesman said.
According to the authorities, the group fired two shots during the raid, but there were no reports of injuries.
Muchina said that certain elements of the case were facilitating the work of the police. “Work is already under way to locate these individuals,” he said.
