Eleven bodies found in recent weeks in the forests of Macossa district in the centre of the country were exhumed yesterday at the request of the Manica provincial public prosecutor, who has opened an inquiry into the case.
The exhumed bodies were discovered more than a month ago, with the circumstances surrounding their origin unknown.
A parliamentary commission of inquiry into the supposed existence of a mass grave in the centre of the country visited the site a few weeks ago.
At the time of bodies’ discovery, there were criticisms about the failure to isolate the area where the discovery was made or to have performed any autopsy before the bodies were buried.
