The government will put agricultural products on sale at an accessible price which allows for their easy access by consumers, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced.
Celso Correia said the initiative also aimed at creating a market for the quantities of products that end up without customers.
The country had a lot to gain from such a strategy, Correia said, including increasing revenue for the state.
The country is currently harvesting the first crop of the year, and the executive has professed itself satisfied with productivity levels.
Answering questions in parliament yesterday, Minister Correia further said that the success of the first agricultural campaign was a significant contribution to the Sustenta program, whose results were also seen in the improvement of the lives of the communities involved.
“In this agricultural campaign alone, the government integrated about 200,000 families in the value chain in 109 districts throughout the country, an action that facilitated self-employment in an equal number of families,” Minister Correia said.
The Minister of Agriculture also highlighted the increase in the use of certified seed, from 2,700 tons to over 5,000.
In addition, Correia told MPs about the introduction of three new accessible credit lines – for small-scale producers, traders and the agro-industry.
